Andy Eccleshall - Upper Left: Landscapes of the Pacific Northwest
Nichols Gallery
The exhibition offers a collection of 26 oil paintings, capturing the atmosphere and the magic of the Northwest landscape, with views of the coast, farmland and mountain visages. They encapsulate the many moods and the ever-changing skies of western Washington. Edmonds, WA based artist Andy Eccleshall has been a professional artist for more than 40 years. Originally from the UK, he feels perfectly at home here in the Northwest weather and landscape. In his paintings the artist strives to place the viewer in the scene, hoping that the paintings evoke a sense of the wind, the rain, and the sun. He works in a large format as he feels that it helps manifest the natural drama and vast panoramas of Western Washington.
Kenda Francis - Crush
North Gallery
The immense pressures faced by wildlife and our natural world are evident from every perspective. My artistic work serves as a spotlight on the often-overlooked yet vital undomesticated creatures that transcend the physical and political boundaries of our planet. Each of my paintings delves beyond mere celebration of these subjects, aiming to shed light on the challenges our wildlife confronts in these overwhelming circumstances. In my work I stand up for all animals, sharing their stories and their struggles, while celebrating their strengths, their resilience, their uniqueness and their incredible importance.
In my large-scale mixed media acrylic paintings on canvas, I’ve developed a distinctive style that incorporates elements of graffiti, such as hand-cut stencils, drips, sprays, words and layered textures. The language of graffiti adds a feeling of degradation to the environment and a message that the world surrounding our precious wildlife is tarnished, worn and unhealthy. The graffiti style “tags” and marks imply that the human hand has touched every natural habitat and left it for the animals to live within.
Niki Keenan - Meeting Place
Atrium Gallery
This exhibit consists of cone-shaped forms, displayed in hourglass configurations. A star from the Milky Way and our star, the Sun, tie the two cones together at their points. In these pieces, the sky and the Earth communicate with each other with the stars as navigational guides and waterways as passage. These pieces are about the electric energy between the meeting of two cones as in the crossing point of an infinity symbol; the upper cone as infinity and the lower cone receiving and reflecting the infinite in continuous conversation. These pieces are coming from an internal place, as I stand in awe of all that is and the communication between the above and the below. Since 2022, I have been wrapping my canvas paintings around conical forms of various sizes and arranging them in hourglass shaped configurations in order to support my exploration of themes such as spiritual/ physical, as above - so below, celestial/terrestrial.
