JOB TITLE: Museum Front Desk Receptionist
TIME COMMITMENT: 8 hours per week. Scheduled Friday – Monday 10:30am – 12:30pm

LOCATION: Friday Harbor, WA

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Receptionist welcomes visitors, takes admission fees, encourages those
interested to sign up for membership, and helps with the sale of exhibition related merchandise. The
position communicates relative information about current and upcoming exhibitions to patrons enhancing
the visitor experience. Data entry, shift and daily reports as well as other administrative and exhibition
related tasks required. The position is responsible for opening SJIMA on time and following COVID19
protocols, which include light cleaning. Other responsibilities as requested.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Open SJIMA at 11am Friday – Monday each week.
Able and trained to welcome visitors, process admission fees
Help visitors to sign up for membership
• Direct visitors to galleries/exhibitions
• Provide short explanation of exhibitions; training provided.
• Sale of exhibition related merchandise
• Keep daily log of visitors and provide reports as requested.
• Count and log donations.
• Ensure the front desk is attended at all times.
Check emails and phone messages and notes daily and respond.
Work in team with volunteers and docents.
Answer phone and direct calls.
Help with special events.
Follow COVID19 protocols which include light cleaning.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Exceptional ability to manage multiple tasks; self-starting and pro-active; flexible and willing to
take on a variety of tasks
Welcoming, professional and personable.
Excellent communication skills.
Skills in sales
Computer proficiency; MS Office, Web based email, basic Excel.
Ability to build relationships with staff, donors, and volunteers.
Ability to work on occasional evenings/special events.
Additional Qualifications: Candidates must be able to thrive within a small non-profit environment and
enjoy visual arts.
