About the Event
Robert Davidson, a renowned Northwest Coast native Haida artist, will be giving an artist talk on Saturday, April 29, 1 - 2 pm at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art. Davidson is a leading figure in the revival of coastal indigenous art and has worked for over 50 years to perpetuate a variety of forms of Haida cultural expression. His work is found in numerous private and public collections worldwide, and he has received many honors for his accomplishments. As a member of the Rainbow Creek Dancers and the Haida Gwaii Singers Society, Davidson is passionate about reviving traditional Haida song, dance, and ceremony.
Davidson's Haida name is G̲uud San Glans, which means "Eagle of the Dawn". An exhibition of his work titled, "G̶UUD SAN GLANS ROBERT DAVIDSON: A LINE THAT BENDS BUT DOES NOT BREAK" was recently on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Davidson is a leading figure in the renaissance of Haida art and culture and resides in White Rock, British Columbia.
