Voices of ancestors speak through the work of a new generation of First Nation artists and their honored mentors.
SJIMA is honored to present its first exhibition devoted to First Nation art. The artists are members of tribes in the Coastal Pacific Northwest and others are Inuit from the Hudson Bay area. Over 25 artists are represented from at least five different outstanding collections.
Our goal is to highlight contemporary artists as they interpret traditional cultural images in glass, prints, stone, bone and wood.
Educational materials and events accompany the exhibitions to expand the understanding of the art, its function and the legends and myths of the tribal cultural heritage.
EMERGENCE will run from May 26th to September 4, 2017.
SJIMA hours are Thursday – Monday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
