Lukta Qiatsuk and his father, Kiakshuk, were both featured in the touring exhibition of 1971-73, “Sculpture of the Inuit: Masterworks of the Canadian Arctic.” His sister, the graphic artist Paunichea, is the mother of carver Aqjangayuk Shaa. Lukta’s three sons are also talented and innovative carvers. Beginning in the 1950’s, Lukta earned a place as a leading figure in Cape Dorset sculpture, graphic art, and printmaking. He depicted birds, animals, and human figures, with a particular interest in owls. He also made stonecut prints and stencils of many of his father’s drawings.
